Donation Options

Sage offers two ways for organizations to support the Techquity program with retired IT assets, helping expand access to technology, digital skills training, and internet connectivity in local communities.

Turn retired technology into meaningful community impact. Sage securely manages the entire IT asset disposition process, including data destruction, processing, and resale. Instead of receiving the resale value, organizations can donate the proceeds to Techquity, giving United Way the flexibility to fund the program’s greatest needs, from devices and internet access to digital literacy and workforce development initiatives.

Donating retired IT equipment is a simple way to support digital inclusion. Sage securely sanitizes and refurbishes qualified assets for distribution through the Techquity program to eligible individuals. Recipients receive a warranty-backed, like-new device experience that helps them pursue educational, employment, and connectivity opportunities. Assets that do not meet program requirements can be processed and resold to help offset program costs.

WHO CAN DONATE TO TECHQUITY?

Businesses and organizations can donate retired IT equipment, or resale proceeds through Sage to support the Techquity program. At this time, donations from individual households are not accepted.

HOW DOES MY ORGANIZATION BENEFIT FROM DONATING?

Donating to Techquity helps expand access to technology, digital skills, and internet connectivity for individuals who need them most. Organizations can also support their sustainability, community impact, and ESG initiatives while ensuring retired IT assets are managed securely and responsibly. Financial contributions may qualify as tax-deductible charitable donations; organizations should consult their tax advisor for guidance.

WHAT HAPPENS TO OUR DONATED DEVICES?

Sage securely sanitizes all donated devices in accordance with NIST 800-88 data destruction guidelines. Equipment that meets Techquity program requirements is refurbished, equipped with a new Windows license, and prepared for distribution to qualified recipients through United Way. Devices that do not meet program needs are responsibly tested, remarketed, or recycled according to certified e-Stewards practices.

IS THERE A COST TO DONATE EQUIPMENT?

There may be processing fees associated with testing, data sanitization, refurbishment, and software licensing. The resale value of eligible assets can help offset some or all of these costs. Sage can help determine the most cost-effective donation approach based on your organization’s equipment and goals.
